Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit

• Minimum age: 18 years
• Maximum age (General/Unreserved): 35 + 5 years (one‑time relaxation) = 40 years
• Maximum age (Category 2A/2B/3A/3B): 38 + 5 years = 43 years
• Maximum age (SC/ST/Category‑1): 40 + 5 years = 45 years

Additional relaxation is available for government employees, widows, ex‑servicemen and persons with disability as per Karnataka Civil Services (General Recruitment) Rules, 1977.

Educational Qualification

Stenographer Grade‑III:

• Passed Second PUC examination, or holds a 3‑year Diploma in Commercial Practice (or equivalent)
• Passed Senior Grade Kannada and English shorthand examinations conducted by the Department of Public Instruction (or equivalent)

Typist:

• Passed Second PUC examination, or holds a 3‑year Diploma in Commercial Practice (or equivalent)
• Passed Senior Grade Kannada and English type‑writing examinations conducted by the Department of Public Instruction (or equivalent)

Application Fee

Fee must be paid online only through State Bank Collect (Net Banking/Credit Card/Debit Card/UPI/QR Code). Demand Draft, postal order, money order or challan payments are not accepted. E‑verification of the payment is mandatory immediately after payment.

Selection Process

1. Stenographer Grade‑III
   • Dictation of 120 words per minute for 5 minutes each in Kannada and English; transcribe within 45 minutes using a computer with special software.
   • Kannada and English skill tests (each max 100 marks; minimum 50 marks required).
   • Shortlisting for interview at a ratio of 1:5 based on combined percentage of qualifying examination and skill test marks.
   • Interview carries 5 marks.
2. Typist
   • Dictation of 15 minutes each in Kannada and English; type using a computer with special software.
   • Kannada and English skill tests (each max 100 marks; minimum 50 marks required).
   • Shortlisting for interview at a ratio of 1:5 based on combined percentage of qualifying examination and skill test marks.
   • Interview carries 5 marks.
3. Selected candidates will undergo a probation period of 2 years as per Karnataka Civil Services (Probation) Rules, 1977, during which they must pass departmental examinations, Kannada language examination, and computer literacy examination.

3. Upload a scanned signature on white paper (black ball‑point pen, 2.5 cm × 7.5 cm, JPG, ≤ 25 KB).
4. Upload a recent passport‑size photograph with white background (5 cm × 3.6 cm, JPG, ≤ 50 KB); the photograph must not be signed.
5. Fill in all required details accurately.
6. Pay the applicable fee online via State Bank Collect and complete e‑verification immediately.
7. Download and print the filled application form along with the fee payment receipt.
8. Retain the printed application, receipt and a government‑issued photo ID until the recruitment process is complete; carry them to the skill test/interview.
