Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • Graduate from a UGC‑recognized university.
  • Diploma/Certificate in Stenography/Shorthand from ITI/Polytechnic or any recognized institute. Candidates currently pursuing the diploma may also apply, provided they submit the pass/completion certificate at verification.
  • Adequate knowledge of Assamese (official language of Assam).
  • Must furnish an Employment Exchange registration number for Assam.

Selection Process

  1. Stenography Test
    • Voice test before dictation – 2 minutes
    • Speed Test (100 wpm, 700 words) – 100 marks, 7 minutes
    • Computer test – 3 minutes
    • Transcription of dictated portion – 25 minutes
  2. Written Test
    • Objective (OMR) type, total 70 marks, duration 1½ hours
    • English Language – 50 marks
    • Assamese (official language) – 20 marks
    • Minimum qualifying marks: 30 marks in Stenography Test and 40 % in each language segment.
  3. Viva‑voce
    • Conducted in a 1:3 ratio (candidates : vacancies) based on merit in Stenography Test.
    • Maximum 10 marks.
    • Final merit based on total marks of Stenography Test + Viva‑voce.
