Introduction

The Karnataka Forest Department has announced direct recruitment for 675 Forest Observer (Group ‘D’) posts for the financial year 2026‑27. Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidate must be an Indian citizen.
  • Educational Qualification: SSLC (Class 10) or equivalent as recognized by Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board, CBSE, ICSE, other state boards, NIOS or KOS.
  • Age:
    • Minimum: 18 years as on the date of notification.
    • Maximum:
      • General/Unreserved: 30 years
      • Backward Classes (Category 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B): 32 years
      • SC, ST, Category‑I: 33 years
    • One‑time relaxation of 5 years applicable to all categories (as per GO No. CiAsuI 262 SoNeNi 2025 dated 29‑01‑2026) for notifications issued up to 31‑12‑2027.
    • Ex‑servicemen: applicable maximum age + years of service + 3 years.
    • Existing Forest Observers (minimum 5 years continuous service) have higher limits: General 40 years, Backward Classes 42 years, SC/ST/Category‑I 43 years.
  • Physical fitness as per standards mentioned below.
  • Male candidates with more than one living wife, or women married to a man with an existing wife, require prior government permission.

Selection Process

  1. Merit List: Category‑wise list prepared on the basis of SSLC (or equivalent) marks in a 1:20 ratio (posts : candidates).
  2. Physical Standard Test (PST): Verification of height, chest measurement/expansion (men) and height/weight (women) as per standards.
  3. Physical Endurance Test (PET) & Physical Efficiency Test: Conducted for candidates clearing PST, as notified by the Department.
  4. Final Selection List: Category‑wise list prepared in a 1:1 ratio based on performance in the above stages.
