Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must fulfill the following requirements to be considered for the Agniveer (Musician) position.

Educational Qualification

Passed Matriculation (Class 10) examination with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks from a Board of School Education recognized by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.

Born between 01 July 2004 and 31 December 2008 (both dates inclusive).

Only unmarried male and unmarried female candidates are eligible. A certificate of being unmarried must be provided at the time of enrolment. Agniveers are not permitted to marry during their four-year tenure; marriage during this period will result in dismissal.

Musical Proficiency

Candidates must demonstrate proficiency and aptitude in music, including accuracy in tempo, pitch, and the ability to sing one complete song. They must also possess practical skill on at least one musical instrument of Indian or foreign origin, with expertise in tuning, matching unknown notes with the instrument, performing a prepared piece, sight reading (Indian Classical/Tablature/Staff Notation), performing Scale/Raaga/Taala, and possessing basic theory knowledge of Indian or International music.

Acceptable Instruments: Keyboard, String, Wind instruments, or any other instrument of Indian or foreign origin.

Ineligible Instruments: Indefinite pitch instruments (e.g., Jazz Drum set, Bass Drum, Snare Drums, Side Drums, Cymbals), non-chromatic instruments (e.g., bugle), and monotone instruments that produce only one note or drone.

Musical Experience Certificate

  • Hindustani/Carnatic Classical on Wind Instruments: Certificate from a recognized musical institute or organization of repute.
  • Western Music on Wind Instruments: Minimum initial grade certificate from international boards such as Trinity College of Music, London or Royal School of Music, London.
  • Other Candidates: Certificates of participation or awards from various musical events.

Selection Process

Written Examination
