Eligibility Criteria

  • Domicile: Candidate must be a resident of Punjab and possess a domicile/residence certificate not older than 5 years.
  • Punjabi Language: Must have passed Matriculation (or equivalent) with Punjabi as a compulsory/elective subject.
  • Educational Qualification: Bachelor of Law (LLB) from a recognised university **or** Barrister of England/Ireland **or** Member of Faculty of Advocates of Scotland, with a minimum of 2 years practice at the Bar.
  • Age Limit (as on 01‑01‑2026):
    • General (UR): up to 37 years
    • SC / BC (Punjab residents): up to 42 years
    • State / Central Government Employees: up to 45 years
    • Persons with Disabilities (PWD): up to 47 years (10 years relaxation)
    • Widows, Divorcees & Certain Married Women: up to 40 years
    • Ex‑Servicemen: as per Punjab Ex‑Servicemen Rules (maximum 3 years above the upper limit after service deduction)
    • Minimum age for all candidates: 18 years

  2. Merit List Preparation: Based on written exam marks. Tie‑breakers: (i) Date of Birth (older preferred), (ii) Higher percentage in required educational qualification, (iii) Higher marks in Matriculation.
  3. Counselling & Document Verification: Candidates called as per merit; must produce original certificates and attested copies.
  4. Recommendation to Department: Fully eligible candidates are recommended to the Punjab Justice Department.
